<image:caption>Brownwood Park, at the corner of Walnut Hill and Webb Chapel Road, shares a triangular lot with a new elementary school and is bound at the south by Joe's Creek. The three pavilions are nestled amongst a grove of mesquite trees. The pavilions each have their own subtle tilting attitude and huddle together in a common decomposed granite circle. The circular space is defined by the paving material, curved custom concrete and steel picnic tables, and a curving row of native grasses. Each unit varies in height, width, and pitch. They are built of painted sheet steel with painted steel columns.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Encore Park</image:title>
<image:caption>Oglesby Greene was engaged to create a master plan and design vision for Encore Park in Downtown Dallas. First Presbyterian Church acquired two blocks surrounding its established homeless services hub, the Stewpot, with the intent to broaden their mission, offering amenities and activities to create vitality in an urban area that is largely forgotten. The plan calls for repurposing of existing historic structures, upgrading the surrounding streetscapes, and programming vacant parcels to engage the community. Key elements include the Stewpot, Museum of Street Culture (508 Park), Community Amphitheater, Community Garden, and 515 Park. Originally constructed in the 1920's as a Dallas Power and Light service center, 515 Park will be completely renovated and restored to house a diverse group of Non-Profit Organizations, complimenting the services provided at the Stewpot. The, once grim, Park Avenue streetscape is being completely repurposed as a pedestrian plaza. It will serve as the spine for Encore Park activities and is designed to be a flexible and unique space that can function independently as well.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Trammell Crow Visitor Education Pavilion is the product of a very successful collaboration between Oglesby Greene and Lake Flato Architects of San Antonio. The Arboretum’s desire for this project was to construct a building that blends in with its surroundings, joins the environment of the Arboretum and allows patrons to filter in and around the facilities provided for the public. It was also their expectation to create an architecturally significant building as an attraction to the greater community. The enclosed portions of the project total approximately 40,000 sf and include an exhibit hall, gift shop, orientation theater classrooms and administrative spaces. On the grounds, there are spaces and accoutrements for entertainment, public gatherings, education and plenty of room for diverse displays of vegetation. Materials were chosen to provide a natural, comfortable environment in harmony with the mission of the arboretum. A palette of native Texas stone and woods join with soft fabrics and paint colors. Courtyard and walkway materials were chosen to blend with long established features and to highlight new resources provided by this project.</image:caption>

<image:caption>First State Bank commissioned two new branch locations Ennis and Waxahachie. The new design was to be a prototype for future branches. The 4,000sf Ennis location is to be the new bank headquarters while the slightly smaller 2,600sf Waxahachie location serves as a new branch. A staggered construction approach was ultimately chosen in an effort to get both locations open as soon as possible and lower construction costs. The structure uses exposed Douglas Fir glu-laminated beams and decking with a wrap around clerestory to provide ample daylighting during business hours. The minimal approach allows for exceptional transparency not often found in financial institutions. Each location uses the prototype concept and interior design info and adapts it to its unique surroundings to take advantage of site conditions.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Flora Lofts Flora Lofts is the first phase of a mixed use development on a prominent site in the Dallas Arts District. Located between the Nasher Sculpture Center and the Meyerson Symphony Center, this piece will provide affordable artist housing, community retail, and additional public parking for local events. There are 47 residential units over street level retail and a sub-terranian parking garage. The building is scaled as a pavillion, floating on a glass plinth with the upper levels stepping back from Flora creating private terraces for the penthouse units. The facade is vegetated with continuous planters along the terrace levels and projecting window boxes that shade the windows on the primary building mass. The planting provides visual interest and allows the facade to change with the seasons. The Flora Street entrance is articulated with a vertical glass volume that contains communal studio space for the resident artists.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Situated in Vickery Meadows, a neighborhood comprised of a primarily immigrant population, 8255 lofts will provide an infusion activity. This mixed-use complex, which contains 250 residential units, 10,000+ sf of retail, and a City of Dallas Library, will become a new hub for the community. The majority of the residential units will be affordable. Residential parking is accommodated below the ground level, while parking is provided for the library, retail, and residential leasing office at grade. An internal street is provided, with ample public space, which can function as a neighborhood “square” and can be utilized for communal events such as markets, concerts, and art showings. Program elements have been placed so as to enliven the street scape on Park Lane and Ridgecrest Road. The project is in close proximity to a DART rail station, making this a perfect opportunity for a dense, transit-oriented urban development.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Vickery Meadow Branch Library As part of the larger 8255 Lofts Mixed-Use project, Vickery Meadow Branch Library will become an integral component in the Vickery Meadow community. The library will bring needed vitality, and provide spaces for classes and community gatherings. The design harkens back to formal Classical libraries, with a high-volume main reading hall and a perimeter mezzanine, allowing access to books along the exterior walls. The main stair doubles as a gathering area for children, envisioned to be utilized for group readings. The volume around the information desk, which also contains the checkout stations, is clad in chalk board panels, enabling graphics to be changed. In keeping with the large number of languages spoken in this neighborhood, the main graphics of the exterior sign and text on the interior chalkboards will be written in many languages. The exterior is clad in a green terracotta panel. This brings attention to the library volume and provides a contrast to the surrounding retail and residential components of the development.</image:caption>

Their priority was to expand their existing space in a manner that would respect the scale of the neighborhood and provide a sense of openness to their neighbors. There was also a desire to keep the existing sanctuary as strong element in any solution. A phased construction approach was ultimately chosen and a scheme was developed that allowed for flexibility to accommodate future growth. Phase one consists of a one story multipurpose space and 4 preschool classrooms on the end end, as well as development of the heavily treed public yard/ garden space. phase 2 will create a similar scaled classroom wing to the west, leaving the sanctuary as the featured foreground structure.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Montgomery Farm, a planned development on more than 650 acres of native landscape on the border between Plano and Allen is a model for the environmentally conscious community. Each development parcel is conceived as being interconnected within the flowing landforms, verdant greenways and open meadows that exist there today. The Connemara Conservancy and Gardens of Connemara, 200+ acres of permanent open green space full of abundant wildlife, will be immediately accessible to residents by a scenic woodlands and wetland ‘hike and bike’ system. The community development plan defines ten smaller scale neighborhoods easily accessible by a variety of beautiful winding streets. Groves of mature trees are preserved, maintained and interspersed throughout in a series of garden parks, designed to give each neighborhood a distinctive identity. They create small, scaled green spaces, courtyards, parks and gardens to break the long procession of facades and define a sense of place. These provide areas for casual community gatherings and pleasant vistas of the neighborhood. A rich diverse mix of traditional and contemporary architectural styles is placed in artful relationships with one another. The placement and layout of the buildings are strategically organized to afford maximum views of the beauty of nature while ensuring visual privacy from the outside. Nothing is to be planned or constructed which depends on the destructive consumption of precious natural resources. The spirit of living a life in balance is represented in both the form and details of the architecture and its natural setting.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Angel Field Wellness Center designed by Oglesby Greene, Inc. is one of the major developments within the master plan of Montgomery Farm in Allen, Texas. The development goal is to combine health care office suites with spa, fitness, and recreational uses into a destination luxury “wellness” facility. The campus, consisting of Office Space, Spa, and Fitness Center, is roughly 165,000 square feet. The challenge is met with a composition of simple, well detailed buildings placed in a protected natural setting that, by virtue of the use of extensive landscaping, natural building materials and covered subgrade parking, creates a healthy lifestyle value for the surrounding residential community and provides ecologically inspired workplaces for a growing variety of wellness industry practices. Each building is built with materials that create both visual sense of openness and a feeling of permanence in the place. The most noticeable elements on the buildings facades are the fieldstone walls with cast stone trim. Both the design and construction of the Angel Field Wellness Center will conform to the United States Green Buildings Council - LEED CS – with a total credit qualification at the ‘Platinum’ level.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Bethany Entries were conceived as the centerpiece of the single family residential developments at Montgomery Farm. Views of traffic on Bethany Drive from the Meadow and the Arbor neighborhoods are controlled by the intervention of raised land forms. In keeping with the topographic language established in the Community Development Plan these main entrances were conceived as way to enhance and extend the continuity of the sculptural forms. The overall character of the entries is in keeping with the nature, ecology and aesthetics of this place. Each entry is a different structural solution but they function in the same essential manner. The heightened crest of the berm is carried over each of the intersecting streets dramatically increasing a sense of arrival or departure. The stone terracing visually flows with the terrain as acts an extension of the underlying geological strata. Passing motorists perceive these features as a significant landmark that signals their emergence into another place…residents and pedestrians on the other side gain a larger sense of separation from the pace of the streaming traffic. The pastoral experience is elevated and perhaps even amplified in the minds of all those who are in this place.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Cisternae, located at Connemara Crossing in Montgomery Farm is conceived to be a significant milepost as one moves through the development. Oglesby Greene worked closely with artist Brad Goldberg to develop the design for the 120' sustainable structure. The electrical energy produced by the windmill is used to circulate water from the pond and gently have it fall from the top of the stone structure. The visual effect is a 27' high wet cylindrical stone wall rising from a still pond and gives new meaning to water features as an attraction. The dual ponds capture run off from the surrounding catchment areas and cleanses it before it runs downstream.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The developers program called for two speculative townhomes of a contemporary architectural style near downtown Dallas, Texas. The site is a narrow corner parcel of 8,550 sf, the longer side of which faces west and fronts a busy tree lined street. 3,200 sf of living space and three enclosed parking places were required for each unit. The site orientation, setbacks, and program dictated a compact, intensely utilized volume to achieve an open flow within the interior spaces but also maintain a high degree of privacy and separation. The design response is based on the idea of a classic urban villa — strong street edge and public presence with a progression of spaces opening to a private urban scale garden — and adapts it to both the site and the pair of dwellings. Facing the street are large translucent ‘bay windows’, providing both softened natural daylight throughout most of the interior and the framing for an open stairwell. Beyond the stair, the living/dining areas and the garden are treated as one large unified space, with only a clear plane of glass separating. Both the wall and floor structures are poured concrete incorporating insulated concrete forms for high thermal and acoustic performance. The bay window is extruded polycarbonate with UV/low emissive coatings and a prismatic diffusion layer which creates the characteristic glow throughout the interior. Exterior finish materials include poured concrete and stucco walls, slate roofing, and galvanized steel fittings and trim — all selected to weather with a compatible chromatic character.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The masterplan for the grounds of Texas Discovery Gardens, in addition to the upgrading and selective redefinition of the featured “Discovery Gardens”, includes a new 8,500 square foot multipurpose Education Pavilion which will be created and anchored at the southern end of the grand allee. It will focus around a central interactive water feature with large covered porches flanking the main facility. The goal is to achieve a LEED Silver rated, sustainable facility.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Bishop Arts Branch Library The Bishop Arts Branch Library will be a LEED Gold library that will replace the existing North Oak Cliff Branch Library. It is sited around a large existing tree while still addressing the urban street presence of the evolving community. Parking is relocated on the back half of the lot opening up an area for a small community park. The new library embraces its role as a community center and collaborative work environment. The central library hall, with its high ceilings, low stacks, extensive work tables and seating promotes interaction and takes advantage of large north facing curtainwalls for daylighting. The library collection is primarily housed along a long low slope ramp that leads patrons up to a large mezzanine that looks out over the central hall and the tree filled entrance courtyard. The integration of an artist studio, gallery spaces and a street café strengthen the link between the library and the surrounding Bishop Arts neighborhood.</image:caption>

<image:caption>A compound of stone buildings with slate roofs facing the street is a design response chosen to meet the subdivision’s requirement for ‘traditional’ architecture. Vine covered arbors and stone pathways mark the entrances. A glass foyer bridges a stream which flows through the house and across the property to the creek. Internal circulation is oriented along the solar axis permitting the North façade to be clear glass with expansive views. Sensors control external shading screens on East and West glass facades allowing a further connection with nature. Living spaces are placed to enhance internal and external connections and protect privacy. The winding stair forms a central axis connecting four levels, from a subterranean wine cellar to a rooftop overlook. An infinity-edge pool and terraces transition into White Rock Creek. 40 Braewood was recently featured on Designing Texas and named one of the most beautiful homes in Dallas by D Magazine. <image:caption>The original 1936 Centennial Exposition era Dallas Horticulture building in Fair Park, with additions in 1955 and 1969, was renovated and redesigned by Oglesby Greene to accommodate Texas Discovery Garden's new mission and program needs for education, visitor services, exhibits, gift shop and year-round butterfly house and insectarium interactive exhibit. The building now holds Texas Discovery Garden offices, research library, laboratory and classrooms for children. The butterfly house is a multi level interactive visitor experience commencing at the upper level and spiraling from above the tree canopy down, through and below the tropical zones amidst myriads of international butterfly species. Interactive and instructional artwork is placed throughout the main hall, butterfly house and classroom to enrich the experience for adults and children alike.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Paul Quinn College is located in southern Dallas on 150 wooded acres adjacent to Five Mile Creek. This planning exercise addresses the anticipated growth in student population and a stated goal to engage the community. The plan is organized with three zones: The academic zone toward the west, the athletic and community zone toward the east, and the spiritual zone in the center. By grouping the community and athletic functions, the supporting parking is shared and the vehicular traffic can be isolated from the campus center by utilizing the east entrance. Undergraduate student housing, located in the southwest corner, is massed to create outdoor spaces of varying scales connected by pedestrian paths. Graduate and faculty housing are more modest in size, integrating into the existing nieghborhood along the northwest edge of the campus. Research and classroom buildings frame the wooded park that winds with the creek through the center of the campus. This orientation allows pedestrian circulation to be shaded and provides a physical connection to nature. The chapel occupies the elevated center of campus and forms the northern edge of the central park and a terminus for the entrance promenade.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The Grauwyler Park Branch Library, at only 12,500 s.f., is Dallas’ smallest programmed new branch facility. The site, hemmed in by setbacks, a curving utility easement, and a city park, determined the footprint of the building. The residual layout is compact, efficient, and simple. Parking is shared with the park and connected to its trails. The library acts as a gateway between the two, with a clock tower as a prominent marker, integrating its community and the park. The common public portion of the library opens up to the wooded park offering expansive views, and the “back of house” areas zone to the street edges. Decking extends to shade areas of full height glazing and vertical metal sunscreens block low afternoon sunlight. The library is LEED Silver rated.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The plan of the library is arranged so that all areas have natural light and views. The centrally located check-out/information desk, on axis with the single point of entry, allows for efficient staff supervision. The desk is also located directly under a clerestory skylight to give prominence to this area with optimal. Materials, such as the wood decking and beams, were chosen to give warmth to the space but also to be durable and to meet sustainable LEED criteria. Bookshelves near the information desk are held to a lower height and run parallel for ease of supervision, and to highlight views to the adjacent park. An emphasis was placed on making each user-group's area of the library distinct, while still maintaining an overall image and easily supervised space. This was done through the use of differing, but coordinating carpets, paints, wall coverings, furnishings, and fabrics. The result is a widely-used, enduring facility that is appropriate to and appreciated by both the community and the librarians and staff who call this branch their home.</image:caption>

<image:caption>The A.H. Meadows Animal Health Care Facility was designed by Oglesby-Greene Inc, to provide state of the art health care and research for the Zoo's population. The 15,000 sf structure is positioned to fit the site by nestling along the curving base of a wooded hillside. The majority of the building sits atop an existing 30' wide cleared utility easement to minimize tree removal and to link existing service roads at each end. Due to this sensitive site response, the facility becomes a sedate setting for the animal patients. The animal treatment area is clerestoried, as it is the center of activity and operation. Emerging from this area is a trellised pedestrian pathway for staff and visitors, which provides a future connection to the master planned Savannah exhibit. Materials were chosen that recede, endure and establish a base for future facilities within this master planned area. Materials include native sandstone/fieldstone, flat seamed zinc coated sheet metal, green tinted glass, cedar trellising, cement fiber panels, cmu, and poured-in-place concrete.</image:caption>

The exhibit is designed to compliment the adjacent Asian Tiger Exhibit and to enhance the Asian area within the Zoo grounds. Themed structures are true to the architecture of northern Thailand. Components of the exhibit included underwater viewing, visitor shade structure for educational use and holding for one breeding pair and a bachelor group of five otters. This shallow exhibit is designed to achieve up-close observation of a smaller animal in a recreation of its natural habitat. The exhibit includes a view window into an outdoor otter den and accompanying interpretive graphics about otter habitats and conservation.</image:caption>

Oglesby•Greene participated in design development with designers Ed Baum and John Maruszczak and executed the contract documents and construction administration. On a two-acre triangle of park land overlooking City Hall Plaza, a memorial has been built to recall the Dallas Police officers killed in the line of duty. A stainless steel construction emerges from the site like a figurative officer’s shield and carries the badge numbers and names of police killed in the line of duty. One plane floats as an overhead bar while another follows the incline of the earth. The plane above casts a rectangular shadow across the broad asphalt steps, recalling the mourning bar worn on police badges when an officer is lost. Within this shadow the badge numbers of fallen officers are illuminated, projected by the rays of the sun. The removed stainless numerals, like reversed stencils. are mounted and given to the officers’ families. The lower plane-borne by the earth and pavement fragments cut from Dallas streets carries the names and dates of the fallen officers, where they may be read and touched at close hand.</image:caption>

      <image:title>RockPointe Church</image:title>
<image:caption>RockPointe Church Recipient of 2015 Faith&Form / IFRAA Design Award The RockPointe Church Campus in Flower Mound, Texas originally consisted of a Worship Center and classroom building and a multi-purpose hall. The church was rapidly outgrowing these spaces and having both pedestrian and vehicular circulation issues on site. We worked with the church to determine future needs and projected growth and to Master Plan their site. An extensive programming/growth study was conducted to determine specific areas of growth and to project the amount of space needed for each group. After projected needs were determined we studied the site and circulation patterns to develop a master plan that would knit the congregation together into a campus. We created a central lawn that was limited to only pedestrian circulation and kept vehicular traffic on the perimeter of the site. The lawn provided a central gathering area for the campus and allowed safe circulation between the buildings. The new building was planned to take advantage of the views of this lawn and to screen the parking from the core of the site. The first phase of the RockPointe Church Addition involved a new 1000 seat Worship Center, administrative space, adult classrooms, and children’s / daycare classrooms. A long north facing glass circulation corridor fronts the newly created campus lawn and ties the program elements within the building together and ties back to the existing buildings on site. The building essentially has two main entrances that accommodate access from both the new lawn and from the parking in the rear. Both entrances open to a large lobby gathering area that allows the congregation space to mingle before and after services. The lobby features a wood ceiling and stone walls which are lit by the linear skylights at the perimeter of the space. The children’s classroom wing extends to the east and the administrative and adult spaces zone to the west. The west wing gracefully curves and rises toward the prominent on-site hill. Future phases will develop a prayer garden and focal point at the ridge of the hill. Photography by Charles Davis Smith Square Footage: 34,000 sf Bid Cost: 7.5 MM download PDF sheet</image:caption>

<image:caption>Northpark Presbyterian Church required simplicity and restraint in their new sanctuary and campus, while still wanting a sense of presence on their site at Walnut Hill and Central Expressway. A steeple and steeply pitched roof offer that presence and a sense of tradition, while a modern take on these elements grants them simplicity. The campus includes a new sanctuary, day school, gymnasium, and fellowship hall; all of which orient themselves inwardly to form a quiet garden courtyard that is protected from the nearby highway. The buildings are uniformly wrapped in a light limestone which unites the campus. In the sanctuary, clerestory windows allow for natural light without distracting from the focus of worship. The church’s original 1915 stained glass windows have also been incorporated as pieces of art.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Located at 5540 Preston Road, in Highland Park, Texas, Oglesby • Greene fitted the bank's program onto a very narrow lot by siting the building to the front and side edges, creating a strong urban presence. A trellised pedestrian circulation axis links the parking areas to a common entry, which is flanked by an adjacent clock tower containing vertical circulation. Rich materials including Texas Leuters limestone, stucco, green tinted glass, steel, wood trellises, and patinaed copper hip roofs were used to achieve human scale and successfully transition between its adjacent commercial and residential uses. Both the downtown facility at 2020 Ross Avenue and the Bent Tree Branch, located at 16475 Dallas Parkway have realized extensive renovation and interior design services provided by Oglesby • Greene. The bank today continues to draw praise from a wide audience. </image:caption>

      <image:title>University Park Residence</image:title>
<image:caption>Located on a relatively narrow internal parcel with a creek at the rear lot line, the University Park residence strives to respond to its unique context. In an established neighborhood where most of the dwellings are traditional in design, the form of the forward-facing 3 car garage “building” presents a simple gabled elevation to the street. The main building volume is characterized by exposed steel structure and large areas of glazing. In response to the natural setting of the creek and foliage, a visual connection with the site is created from all living areas. A straightforward exposed structural system and simple, honest materials of Lueders Limestone, Ipe wood and zinc metal create a refined and serene environment, complementing the natural strengths of the site. A narrow lap pool runs along the homes south edge while a long narrow koi pond runs along its front eastern edge, and under the glass floored bridge linking the main house to its garage. The Primary 2 level structure’s roof is filled with solar collectors and the project was awarded LEED Gold rating. The home was completed in 2018.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Simple forms and natural materials define this modern residence. The primary rectangular volume is clad largely in full height glass, except on the west elevation. It embraces natural light and the views of both foreground pool and landscape within its garden walls, and beyond of the mature tree canopy in this established neighborhood. The ground floor spaces spill into the landscape as the house recesses into its corner lot. The masonry garden wall merges with the north façade to reinforce the connection between inside and out. A cantilevered porte cochere defines the axis to the entry and stair volume beyond. Secondary access from the traditional front yard frames a cross axis to the pool and guest house beyond. The second level spaces are wrapped by a continuous balcony which incorporates a brise soleil to manage morning sun on this east exposure. Copper, steel and Douglas Fir complete a material palette intended to patina and soften as its surrounding landscape matures. Photography by Dror Baldinger, Architectural Photography</image:caption>

<image:caption>The vision of The Civic Center Collaborative is to create an active, prosperous, adaptable, and iconic center of civic activity in Downtown Waco. We will do this by bringing modern office space, urban parks, and neighborhood retail to Downtown Waco, creating a dynamic, sustainable, and vibrant connecting point for our community. Our mission is simple; make the center of downtown Waco one of the most desirable civic places in the country and a civic asset for Wacoans and people who would like to visit. The Civic Center Collaborative aims to work in partnership with the community to redefine Waco’s urban landscape by building the next generationally iconic place in Waco. The Civic Center project at Heritage Square has conceptualized a landmark urban park that will become a community centerpiece and three modern class A office and retail buildings totaling approximately one half million square feet.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Building 1 will be a 4-story (appx. 80,000 SF) modern office and retail building located on the corner of 4th and Austin. This corner is significant historically for a variety of reasons. Of note, it is the birthplace of Dr Pepper and present location of a memorial to the 1953 tornado that devastated Downtown Waco. With that in mind we will be working to incorporate improvements to both the Dr Pepper memorial and the tornado memorial into the design of the project and the park.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Palestine Residence - Palestine Residence</image:title>
<image:caption>Located in the State of Palestine (east of Israel), this family residence is situated in a mountain village northeast of Ramallah. With four levels including a ground level entertainment level designed around the concept of being sculpted out of the landscape, this residence is truly unique in its surrounding. The residence utilizes local Jerusalem stone with a variety of installations. The landscape and ground level are rough and large, grounding the residence to the site. The stone sizes decrease in size and become smooth as you transition up to the higher floors. Exterior cladding eventually transitions to smooth Neolith slats that modernize and lighten the upper floors. A large etched glass screen uses an arabic pattern to reduce solar heat gain and create a stunning artful facade.</image:caption>
