This home was designed for a family of four in Highland Park, Texas. The house is situated in a traditional, inner-city neighborhood on a 70'x225' lot. The owner's program generated a 6700 sf primary house with a 4100 sf ancillary structure containing guest quarters, a garage, and an auto racing/restoration shop. This maximized the allowable lot utilization area. The house organizes around three primary exterior spaces: the front court, inner court (around and existing Live Oak tree), and motor/game court. The house is organized from front to back, progressing from public to private; formal to informal. The front porch with it's fireplace and grille links the interior to the front court and it's programmed use (lawn with playground equipment). The fireplace chimneys are fabricated from oil field casings used in the owner's oil and gas drilling activities. This modern design is screened from the public and neighbors by it's "green hedge wall" landscaped perimeter and transitions into foreground architecture upon procession into the site. |
